Acodeco Launches Rice Inventory in Panama

The Consumer Protection and Competition Defense Authority (Acodeco), in collaboration with institutions in the agricultural sector, has begun the first physical inventory of rice for the year throughout Panama. This initiative aims to gather information on the existence and supply of this basic product in the diet of Panamanians, covering silos, mills, distributors, and retail establishments.

Inventories are essential to understand the level of rice supply in the country, providing important data that serves as a reference for future decisions, such as imports and necessary quantities. During this process, different facilities in provinces such as Panama, Coclé, Los Santos, Veraguas, and Chiriquí will be inspected.

The main variable under analysis during these inventories is the total existence of rice at the national level, both in its husked state and already processed, with the aim of ensuring adequate supply in the internal market. In the last inventory, carried out from July 22 to 26, 2024, a availability of 2,264,206.76 quintals was recorded throughout the Panamanian territory.
