The President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, has presented an economic reactivation plan that will begin with three roadwork projects aimed at creating jobs in Panama. These projects will generate 1,850 direct jobs and 5,550 indirect jobs in the coming months, according to the Minister of Public Works, José Luis Andrade, at a press conference.
One of the projects consists of the rehabilitation of a section of the Pan-American highway that goes from Loma Campana, in Western Panama, to the La Hacienda hotel, in Veraguas, with an investment of 352 million balboas. This work will be carried out through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and is expected to generate 1,000 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect jobs. The PPP model will guarantee maintenance for 15 years, including 91 bridges and five at-grade intersections.
Another project approved by the Cabinet is the rehabilitation of the roadway section between Santiago de Veraguas and David, Chiriquí, which will generate 250 direct jobs and 750 indirect jobs. The expected execution period is 540 days for the work and 36 months for maintenance.
Additionally, Minister Andrade mentioned other future projects, such as the rehabilitation of the section between Chepo and Yaviza and the continuation of the Beaches Corridor with a variant towards Campana, which are expected to generate more jobs and boost the economy in the region.
In total, the roadworks planned by the government are expected to generate 1,850 direct jobs and 5,550 indirect jobs, significantly contributing to the economic reactivation of the country.
