The Council of Ministers approved two resolutions, No. 127-25 and No. 128-25, authorizing the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) to sign contracts through an exceptional procedure to immediately address the damage caused by the rains that occurred at the beginning of last October in Boquete.
The first contract is with the company Constructora NFL, S.A. for the project "Comprehensive solution for critical points in Palmira and Los Naranjos, Boquete" for a sum of B/. 6,051,423.68 (includes ITBMS).
The second contract is with the company Bocas Generation Company Inc. for the project "Comprehensive solution for the improvement of the rainwater system of the town of Bajo Boquete" for a sum of B/. 11,253,303.83 (includes ITBMS).
These works aim to restore road safety, functionality, and structural stability of the sections affected by the intense rains in more than 16 critical points. The corrective and preventive actions are aimed at preserving the integrity of the terrain and associated structures, minimizing the risk of collapse, and reinforcing the resilience of the infrastructure against extreme weather events.
The MOP states that due to the need to address the situation on a peremptory basis and the imminence of new damage derived from the atmospheric conditions in the area, it proceeds to manage the improvement of the road network by contracting through an exceptional or special procedure.
This technical response contemplates the stabilization of slopes through suitable geotechnical solutions, the rehabilitation of the carriageway to guarantee optimal traffic conditions, and the construction or replacement of drainage works (pipes, gutters, and hydraulic boxes) to improve the capacity of rainwater evacuation.
