The Government of Panama promulgated Executive Decree No. 21 of November 11, 2025, which creates the National Commission for the Development and Supervision of the Pork Industry (Conaporc). This commission will be attached to the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) and will be tasked with coordinating policies, projects, and actions to ensure the responsible development of the industry, protecting natural resources and promoting good production practices. Key functions of Conaporc include: serving as a forum for consultation and analysis of public policies related to the sector; developing a National Guide of Good Practices for the Pork Industry; designing strategies to ensure the environmental sustainability of the sector. The commission will also formulate recommendations on issues affecting the competitiveness and health of Panamanian pork farming and coordinate actions for supervision and monitoring of the industry's development. The creation of this advisory body aims to strengthen Panamanian pork production based on environmental, health, and technological sustainability criteria. The commission will be composed of representatives from various ministries, producer guilds, and the academic sector, including the Ministry of the Environment (MiAmbiente), the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the National Association of Swine Breeders of Panama (Anapor), the Association of United Swine Breeders of Panama (APUP), the Association of Pork Producers of Panama (Aprocerpa), the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt), the University of Panama (UP), and the Technological University of Panama (UTP).
