MIDA: Sufficient Potato and Onion Supply for Coming Months

The Minister of Agricultural Development (MIDA), Roberto Linares, assured that there is a sufficient supply of potatoes and onions to meet demand in the coming months, when consumption of these products increases. This confirmation was given during a meeting of the potato and onion agri-food chain, held at the Association of Highland Producers (ACPTA) in Paso Ancho, Tierras Altas district, Chiriquí.

During the meeting, Minister Linares detailed the available inventory of these products for the coming months, ruling out the need for imports. In this regard, the president of ACPTA, Lorenzo Jiménez, highlighted that for the month of December, a good harvest is expected and that it will not be necessary to resort to importing these products.

Regarding smuggling, Minister Linares pointed out that MIDA is working in coordination with different entities to address this problem that affects several sectors, including those of potatoes and onions. "Smuggling is a problem that has always existed, but we are taking measures to solve it," emphasized Linares, who highlighted the importance of continuing to work together to protect national production.

Finally, Minister Linares highlighted the effort and commitment of local producers, who, he stated, are working with the aim of being able to export potatoes and onions in the near future.
