The mayor of Donoso, Edilberto Mejía, highlighted that with the closure of the mine, his district has been affected by the payment of municipal taxes. He detailed that they will now follow up on the hiring of people and that the majority of those hired should be from that district. This Saturday, many Colon residents have traveled to the Miguel de la Borda area from different parts of the Colon province in search of a job opportunity. Mejía emphasized that this is the first time a job fair has been held in the area and recalled that when the mine was in operation, if 12 residents worked there, it was considered a lot. Benito Ortiz, 31, a resident of Donoso, said he arrived early from upstream to apply for a job, at least in general services, because he needs a job to support his family. More than three hundred people arrived very early this Saturday, November 15, at the gym of the Miguel de la Borda community, in the Donoso district, in Lower Coast of Colón, in search of a job opportunity. One of these people was Fernando González, 26, who came to this coastal town the day before to be interviewed for a job offer. In turn, the mayor of Donoso, Edilberto Mejía, informed that the residents of this sector must be the first to be hired in this job fair to support in the protection of the mine's environment. The mayor detailed that he hopes that from now on things will be done differently, since they have "always been abandoned." "This demonstrates that in Colón they want work amid the current economic conditions that are not very favorable," he said. He added that at this time they are looking for mechanics, electricians, assistants, among other positions. He said that it is clear that they are handling a recruitment and hiring policy. He indicated that depending on the position, people will be called to submit documents, check references and a more formal interview. Joydeth Moreno, leader of the Manpower Group Project, informed that they are recruiting personnel for the technical and operational area, in which more than two hundred people have attended.
