The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) reported a 74% progress in the construction of the Yaviza–Pinogana road and the bridges over the Chucunaque and Tuira rivers. This $45 million project will strengthen connectivity between the communities of Yaviza, El Real de Santa María, and Pinogana in the Darién province. Work is also advancing on the installation of drains, paved gutters, earthwork, and paving on different fronts. On various sections of the project, earthwork, drains, gutters, fills, and the placement of select material are being carried out, in addition to the installation of stormwater structures. The entity highlighted that the bridge over the Chucunaque river remains open only for internal project traffic, as paving work continues on the stretch between the Chucunaque and Tuira rivers. On the spur to the health center, the stormwater crossings are already complete, and the base is being prepared for the asphalt layer. During this week, work has been carried out on installing luminaries on the Chucunaque bridge, constructing the abutment of the pedestrian bridge over the Las Lajas stream, and excavation and placement of select material on the spur to the health center. Meanwhile, on the bridge over the Tuira river, the assembly of voussoirs continues on its different piers. They reiterated that the project continues to advance towards its final phase, with a direct impact on mobility, access to services, and agricultural and commercial activities that will strengthen the integration of the Darien communities. For this reason, its use by the public remains restricted, and passage is only allowed in emergency situations that require it. The 6.9-kilometer project includes a 940-meter spur to the Yaviza Health Center and will directly benefit more than 15,000 residents and some 30,000 users traveling to the mentioned communities.
