The Panama-Colón highway section at Guarumal, which collapsed several months ago, is expected to reopen to traffic following ongoing rehabilitation works. This was announced in a note from Servicentro Transcolunsa, which operates the Colón-Buena Vista-Nuevo Vigía route. According to the statement, as of December 27, lanes will be reopened at the Río Gatún, El Silencio sector, in both directions towards the city of Colón. The reopening is conditional and will initially be limited to sedans, public transport, and selective passenger transport. Eleuterio Pérez, a representative of the Limón district, confirmed that if weather permits, the road will reopen on December 27. During this first phase, the section will only be accessible to light vehicles, public transport, and selective transport as a safety measure while work and assessments continue in the area.
