Starting this Monday, December 22, the Panama Metro will begin moving giant structures that will form the core of the future train on Line 3. These are the beams that will be placed inside the tunnel passing under the Panama Canal, a key part of the project aimed at reducing the traffic congestion that daily affects the people of Western Panama. This is not an ordinary transport operation. These are massive components that require careful planning of every move, as an error here is not an option. This is a part of the work that is not often seen from the outside, but it will support everything that comes after. In this first phase, 90 beams will be installed in the tunnel, which was built using the traditional method. Each beam is 12 meters long and weighs 36 tons. Drivers were also asked to respect traffic signals and safety indications during the operations.
Later, work will continue in the tunnel excavated by the Panama tunnel boring machine, a key piece of equipment on this project that has advanced underground without many people seeing it. Thinking about the holidays and end-of-year traffic, the Metro informed that there will be no beam transport on December 24, 25, 30, and 31. The entity asked for patience from the public, aware that these movements may cause temporary inconveniences on the road.
