Acodeco warns about microcredit apps falsifying documents

Acodeco's head, Ramón Abadi, reported numerous complaints from customers whose credit histories were damaged due to document falsification by microcredit apps. He called for sanctions against these companies to protect consumers.

Ramón Abadi, General Administrator of Acodeco, warned that the institution has received a large number of complaints from clients whose credit history has been affected after their documentation was falsified on some digital platforms dedicated to microcredit.

He detailed that these companies have falsified documentation, such as the Social Security card or the payment receipt. Abadi noted that when customers make claims, the microcredit companies ask them to pay or file a complaint with the Public Ministry, and they can also come to Acodeco with the client's credit history.

"These people must be sanctioned and removed from the market," warned the Acodeco administrator. According to Abadi, complaints arise when customers are looking for some banking transaction and their credit history shows a loan they never applied for.

Abadi added that entrepreneurs have come to Acodeco and reported the incident "so that we can administratively sanction these companies."

"This is a call to the financial institutions of the Mici and the Superintendency of Banks, we are going to call them to account because we are going to put an end to this type of companies that harm the Panamanian consumer," he stated.

"Everything is a farce, and then they excuse themselves by saying that they were scammed and not you, but they have put you through a bad time because you have not been able to make your banking transaction and have had to go before all these authorities to disassociate yourself from a matter that is their responsibility to do due diligence and verify that it is really the person and comply with the control mechanisms they must have," he expressed.

"What happens is that when you see the documentation that authorized the loan, they have copies, many times of the consumer's ID card, but they do not have a signature or any other document that supports it," explained Abadi.
