The Panama Canal experienced a historic event as the world's largest passenger cruise ship passed through its locks, setting a new record. Canal Administrator Ricaurte Vásquez confirmed that the Disney Adventure, with a capacity for over 6,700 passengers and a crew of nearly 2,500, transited the locks without incident, despite the rain. Vásquez highlighted that this record passage occurred almost ten years after the canal's expansion, a period marked by challenges such as droughts, the pandemic, and international pressures. Nevertheless, he assured that operations have remained continuous thanks to the work of the canal's staff and responsible management of the waterway. During the conversation, Vásquez also addressed port-related topics. He confirmed that the Canal has relaunched a prequalification process, a preliminary step for interested companies to participate in future tenders for new terminal projects on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts. Regarding the Río Indio project, Vásquez reiterated that its progress depends on dialogue with local communities.
