Panama's Business Rounds: $3.68M for Charity

Business rounds for rice and dairy sales in Panama generated $3.68 million, which will be donated to 33 charitable institutions nationwide. This initiative shows how trade agreements can bring direct social benefits.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (Mici) of Panama reported that B/.3,680,000.00 generated from the sale of rice and dairy products in business rounds for 2025 will be donated to 33 charitable institutions nationwide. Among the main beneficiaries are ADAVION, Asociación Pro Nutrición Infantil de Veraguas, Aldeas Infantiles SOS Panamá, Hogares CREA Panamá, Luz y Vida, Asociación Nacional contra el Cáncer, Nutre Hogar, Casa Esperanza, and others. For this year, Mici projects an even larger margin for donations, expanding the social impact throughout Panama. Aracelys Ortega, executive director of CONABOLPRO, highlighted that these negotiations not only regulate the market but also generate concrete resources to support those in need. The process complied with Panama's commitments to the WTO and current trade agreements. It involved 12 national mills, ensuring market supply and compliance with quality standards. The Association Pro Obras de Beneficencia del Despacho de la Primera Dama will be the largest beneficiary, receiving B/.1,575,000.00. In November, four rounds of negotiations were also held for tariff quotas on dairy products and rice, totaling B/.30,744,039.85. The rounds were organized by CONABOLPRO and the National Product Exchange (BAISA). The supplier was TRC Trading Corporation.
