In Panama, electricity prices have risen, affecting overall inflation. The cost of electricity increased by 4.8% due to tariff adjustments made at the end of last year. For residents in the province of Panama, the increase was 2.3%, while for the rest of the country, it reached 5.1%. This increase, experts say, should not significantly impact most residents, but it has affected the Consumer Price Index (CPI), as well as airfare and the cost of travel packages. Meanwhile, the price of fresh fruits fell by 6%, and diesel by 4.3%. The drop in fruit prices may be related to high Christmas consumption, while the diesel price cut was accompanied by a 2.8% drop in gasoline prices, as recent adjustments have kept prices stable. In 2025, inflation was virtually non-existent at -0.2%, but in January 2026, it rose slightly to 0.2% compared to the same month last year.
