The Ministry of Environment of Panama (MiAMBIENTE) collected the full amount of a fine imposed in 2014 on the company Campos de Pesé, S.A., for contaminating the La Villa River in the province of Herrera. The fine was established in October 2014 after the impact on the water source was confirmed. The company filed appeals in judicial instances, but the decision was upheld. In December 2025, the case was referred to the MiAMBIENTE Executive Court to initiate collection proceedings. Upon receiving it, a payment order was issued and the corresponding legal measures were activated to recover the debt owed. As part of the process, notices were sent to banks and state entities, including the Transit and Land Transport Authority. This action by MiAMBIENTE concludes the collection of a sanction that had been pending for over ten years. The Ministry urged companies with outstanding obligations to regularize their situation to avoid similar measures.
