The University of Panama has approved a temporary reduction in the cost of diplomas. The measure will be in effect until the financial fund stabilizes. The University of Panama approved a temporary reduction of $10 in the cost of diplomas received by graduates, as part of a measure adopted by its Administrative Council. According to the university, the decision aims to address an administrative issue related to the acquisition of sashes and medals, which are part of the diploma package, and also seeks to provide financial relief to students who successfully complete their studies. The costs of the diplomas are set as follows: technical degrees from $45.00 to $35.00; bachelor's degrees from $50.00 to $40.00; specialist degrees from $60.00 to $50.00; master's degrees from $80.00 to $70.00; and doctorates from $100.00 to $90.00. Ricardo Parker, secretary general, explained that at the end of 2025, the institution faced an issue in the process of purchasing these items, a situation that could prevent their timely delivery in 2026 due to the procedures required for the issuance of the purchase order. The official recalled that through Administrative Council Agreement 14-15, approved on December 10, 2015, it was approved that ten balboas (B/.10.00) of the payment for the issuance of the diploma would be destined for the financial fund of the Directorate of University Protocol and Ceremonial. This was for the acquisition of medals and sashes.
