Raid on Albrook Port Archives: Seizure of Key Documents

The Public Ministry conducted an operation that uncovered key documents linked to port operations at Albrook. The operation, carried out in conjunction with the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ), focuses on an investigation initiated into the alleged withholding or incomplete delivery of information required by the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) in managing the concessions for the Balboa and Cristóbal ports. Senior prosecutor Azael Samaniego, in charge of the operation, confirmed that the case arose from indications of a possible illicit act but avoided drawing premature conclusions. 'The documentation must be analyzed,' he stated, suggesting that the volume of seized material could shape the course of the investigation. This is no small matter. Vehicles loaded with dozens of boxes, some with records dating back to the year 2000, have left the searched offices. The transport of the material, which even included official units, evidences the magnitude of what was found. In parallel, authorities are attempting to determine the formal ownership of the raided premises, a key element in the initial phases of the process. Meanwhile, the area remains cordoned off and under police custody with restricted access. The investigation is ongoing.
