The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) reported that the Transístmica highway rehabilitation project, specifically in the Gurumal sector of Colón province, has reached 90% physical progress. After partial traffic restoration on January 8, 2026, circulation has now been normalized across the three sections of the road, allowing all types of vehicles to flow through the intervened area. The work carried out by crews and technical staff has included critical ground stabilization and the construction of support structures to ensure the safety of the roadway. This intervention ensures the continuity and quality of the water supply for surrounding communities, integrating road improvements with basic service infrastructure. According to official Ministry of Public Works estimates, it is expected that all work will be completed during April 2026. The MOP report highlights that the work also included comprehensive improvements to the storm drainage system and the application of asphalt layers on the affected section. As part of the project's development, the National Aqueduct and Sewer Institute (IDAAN) proceeded with the installation of new drinking water pipes in the Gurumal area. Due to the presence of equipment in the area, authorities reiterated the call for drivers to travel with caution and strictly respect the safety signs established in the sector.
