Panama Government Prepares Resolution to Export Mining Material

The Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MICI) of Panama is in the final phase of issuing a resolution that will allow a company to process and export material already extracted by Minera Panamá. The head of the ministry confirmed this, indicating that the measure could be implemented “today or tomorrow” once the corresponding legal procedures are completed. According to the authorities, the material in question has previously been removed and must be processed before leaving the country for commercial purposes. However, this is a lower quality resource compared to that extracted in earlier stages. The official explained that this process has been subject to audits and reviews, including requests from the Ministry of the Environment, due to the potential risks involved in its handling. He also emphasized that the decision responds to direct instructions from the Executive to comply with all legal requirements before authorizing any movement of the material. Although the exact tonnage was not specified, it was acknowledged that there is a significant volume stored, awaiting official approval for its final disposal.
