The director of the Transit Authority and Land Transportation (ATTT), Nicolás Brea, stated this Monday that transporters must be up-to-date with their obligations to the institution to qualify for the fuel subsidy that the State will provide. "I cannot receive from the State if I owe the State," Brea stated. Brea explained that once the platform for the fuel subsidy is created, each transporter must register and include the authorized drivers who will withdraw the fuel. "What is being done is a technological platform on Panama Conecta by the Government Innovation Authority, which will carry out a technological procedure to ensure that this subsidy is handled correctly, orderly, and responsibly," he stated. He mentioned that this will operate through a code. "You will go to the gas station and they will scan a code, and there they will know if you are a vehicle authorized to receive that subsidy," the director of ATTT told Telemetro Reporta. He mentioned that the first thing to be done is the registration; he emphasized that each transporter must register on the platform and register the drivers authorized to receive the fuel. "Remember that the operation certificates may be in one person's name, but the one driving may be another, or, in some cases, they are organized companies and the drivers are several, so what we are defining is that," he said. On the other hand, Brea highlighted that once the license plate number is entered, it will immediately show if the transporter has the operation certificate and is duly registered in that technological tool. It will also show if the driver is authorized to receive the fuel. He said that they are working on some irregularities that occurred in the past; for example, there were beneficiaries who filled their vehicle's tank in short periods of time. And he stated that the State's investment in this subsidy is 15 million dollars per month, but the figure could increase or decrease, depending on how the conflict in the Middle East progresses.
