The Minister of Economy and Finance of Panama, Felipe Chapman, presented modifications to the country's budget, which has been adjusted to 30,111,987,375 dollars. This budget increase will mean 578,407,845 dollars less than the budget for the year 2024, being considered by Chapman as a conservative and responsible adjustment.
Among the entities that have been adjusted are Social Security, Pandeportes, ADN, and universities, among others. The budget allocated to Education is 1.282 billion dollars. Chapman emphasized that this budget increase is manageable and lower than the previous year's.
The Budget Commission of the National Assembly of Panama has received the modifications presented by Chapman, which aim to adjust the funds allocated to universities, the National Decentralization Authority, and the Ministry of Education according to what is established in Resolution No. 84 of October 22, 2024. Subsidies for the 25-pound liquefied gas tank and preferential interests have also been included.
The areas of government that have received adjustments in the budget are Education, Economy and Finance, Culture, Health, Foreign Affairs, and Public Security. Despite being pressed for time during the budget hearings, the Commission detailed the expenses and investments contemplated in the budget. Compared to the 2024 budget, the new budget represents a downward adjustment of 578,407,845 dollars.
