The Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) has published a preliminary assessment regarding the damages suffered by agricultural crops nationwide due to the persistent bad weather in the country. According to the report, several crop areas were affected, including: 1,578.35 hectares of rice, 142.15 hectares of corn, 69.55 hectares of cucurbits, 40.50 hectares of roots and tubers, 20.05 hectares of plantain, 1.00 hectare of cocoa, among others.

In MIDA's words, "This series of floods and rains have significantly affected agricultural production throughout the country. We are constantly evaluating the situation and working together with producers to provide them with the necessary support during this difficult time." The preliminary figures reveal a concerning outlook for the Panamanian agricultural sector, with multiple categories suffering significant losses due to adverse weather conditions.

According to MIDA's report, it is expected that the final figures of damage will be even higher as more detailed assessments are conducted in the different regions of the country. A call is made for the collaboration of all stakeholders involved in the agricultural sector to face this situation in the most effective way possible and to recover from the losses incurred.
