The eighth test flight of SpaceX's Starship vehicle, owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk, ended with the destruction of the spacecraft in mid-flight, just as happened in the seventh test.
The SN8 prototype test took place at the company's facilities in Boca Chica, Texas. During the flight, which reached an altitude of 12.5 kilometers, the goal was to carry out a series of maneuvers and tests before attempting a controlled landing. However, when attempting to land, Starship failed to maintain stability and exploded upon impact with the ground.
After the accident, Elon Musk tweeted: "SN8 had an excellent flight mission and demonstrated that a soft landing is possible." Despite the destruction of the craft, SpaceX considered the test successful in terms of data collection and experience for future flights. The company is developing Starship with the aim of sending humans to Mars in the future.
