Caribbean Tragedy: Shipwreck in Miramar Claims Child's Life, Leaves Over a Dozen Injured

A tragedy off the coast of Miramar in the Colón province has claimed several lives. A vessel sank, leaving a scene of horror and desperation among the waves. Eighteen people were on board. Some managed to survive by holding onto anything that floated, while others were not so fortunate. Among the survivors is the cruelest pain: a five-year-old child lost his life, despite the best efforts of the medical staff. The silence at the Nombre de Dios Health Center was broken by the anguished cries of those who arrived soaked and in shock. Three of the injured were urgently transferred to the Manuel Amador Guerrero Hospital, where their condition is critical. The rest remain under care at the health centers in Nombre de Dios and Miramar, while an additional ambulance is en route to reinforce transfers. The causes of the shipwreck, the exact point of departure, or the vessel's destination have not yet been specified. The nationality of the victims has also not been revealed, although local sources indicate that they may have been people of various nationalities who ventured to sea in search of a better future. For now, the sea guards its answers. The survivors, with a lost look in their eyes, repeat between sobs the same phrase: 'everything was too fast... the sea swallowed it all.' The National Aeronaval Service (SENAN) and the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) are maintaining operations in the area to clarify the facts and provide humanitarian assistance.
