Nearly 200 homes were affected by heavy rains that hit the province of Colón over the past two days, according to a report from the National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc).

The report details that the floods mainly affected the area of Cristóbal Este, in the sector known as Canaán, an informal settlement that serves as an entrance to the Altos de Los Lagos community. In this area, 21 homes were partially affected, displacing 85 people (59 adults and 29 minors). These people sought refuge in the homes of relatives and friends.

In the communities of Nazareno A and B, located in the district of Cristóbal, 12 homes were also damaged, affecting 25 people (18 adults and 7 minors). In turn, in the district of Chagres, specifically in the Achiote area, 10 houses were affected, impacting a total of 43 people, including 27 adults, 16 minors, and one person with a disability.

One of the areas hardest hit by the rains was the Cativá district, where sectors such as San Isidro, Guayabal, and San Pedro A and B reported damage to 141 houses. This situation affected 503 people (332 adults, 175 minors, and 17 people with disabilities).

The report also highlights an incident in the Chagres district, in the Piña area, where a tree fell on a house in the area known as El Tarascon. Fortunately, the tree was successfully cut and removed, damaging the roof of the house, which was inhabited by two adults.

Finally, the rains caused several landslides in the Cativá district, specifically in the communities of El Polvorín and Altos de Zona Libre, which contributed to the difficulties in the region. Authorities continue to assess the situation and provide assistance to those affected, while remaining alert to the possibility of more precipitation.

Sinaproc continues to monitor weather conditions and work in coordination with other institutions to address the needs of the victims.

Meanwhile, the Regional Directorate of Education of Colón informed that the temporary suspension of classes will remain in effect this Friday, November 21, at educational centers located in the affected areas of the province. Where access to the facilities is difficult or impossible. The measure applies only to schools and colleges whose accessibility remains compromised due to recent weather conditions.
