This Monday, December 1st, the San Miguelito Municipality activated the 'Cleaning Mission' operation to prevent the district from celebrating Christmas surrounded by waste. This measure comes at a time when Revisalud, the company in charge of garbage collection, has seen its operational plan compliance drop from 70% to a mere 40%, according to the district's mayor's office. Mayor Irma Hernández stated, 'There is only one responsible party here: the current company.' In response to the crisis, the Municipality has launched an offensive cleanup that includes: reinforcing compactor trucks, adding more crews to critical points, manual sweeping, eliminating clandestine landfills, and raising awareness among residents not to dump waste in rivers, streams, or streets. This initiative will have the support of representatives to mitigate points where the company does not reach. The collection situation in the district is complicated. Mayor Hernández emphasized, 'But San Miguelito deserves a service that actually responds.' All that's left is to wait and see if San Miguelito will have a Christmas with garbage... or without it. Irma Hernández also reported that Veranillo, Don Bosco, Samaria, and almost the entire district have critical points where waste has been accumulating for two, three, or more days. The Revisalud contract ends on January 18, 2026, and the Municipality confirmed that three temporary companies will take over while the definitive concession is finalized. Hernández also warned that 'the transition will be traumatic and will require adaptation.' She added, 'It is unacceptable to play with people's health.'
