The renovation project of the Omar Torrijos Herrera Public Library, located in San Miguelito, has been selected as one of the winners of the 13th Iberbibliotecas Grants Call 2025, reported the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura). A total of 176 projects from all of Ibero-America were submitted to this call, of which only 125 passed the pre-selection stage. Panama managed to position itself within the select group of 23 winners, standing out among proposals from countries such as Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Brazil.
The awarded project, 'Building community through reading,' aims to transform the San Miguelito library into a model of management, inclusion, and access to culture at the community level. The initiative was presented by Micdonia Quirós, librarian on behalf of the Ministry of Culture, who identified this international call as a key opportunity to promote the venue.
