Two Teenagers Rescued from Current at Beach in Colón

Two minors were rescued in time after being dragged by the current outside the safety perimeter at La Angosta beach in Colón. The incident occurred amid unstable weather conditions that were already under surveillance by authorities.

One of the teenagers, aged 13, received medical attention for presenting drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and vomiting. The second minor, aged 15, was also conscious at the time of receiving medical attention, according to the official report.

The response was rapid and coordinated. Lifeguards, Sinaproc personnel, Panama Firefighters, and SUME 911 managed to stabilize both young people and remove them from the risk area without the case escalating further. Although the area had signage, the minors had left the marked perimeter.

This rescue comes as Sinaproc maintains a preventive surveillance alert for heavy rains and electrical storms until the night of February 3, mainly on the Caribbean slope. The IMHPA report warns about the entry of a frontal system, stronger trade winds, rough seas, and rains that could leave accumulations between 100 and 200 millimeters in 72 hours.

Authorities insist on not letting guard down. Respect the flags, do not enter the sea when there are warnings, avoid swollen rivers and streams, and stay tuned to official notices. In emergencies, lines 911 and 520-4426 are available.
