Chiriquí Fire Ravages up to 25 Hectares on a Hill in Tierras Altas

A vegetation fire in Cerro La Florentina, in the district of Tierras Altas, Chiriquí province, affected between 20 and 25 hectares. Firefighters worked for over 20 hours in challenging conditions due to strong winds, deploying 37 units. Thanks to inter-institutional cooperation, the fire was contained and prevented from spreading to nearby areas. However, authorities reported a new fire in the northern part of the hill, so active surveillance and control measures are being maintained to prevent reignition. The fire caused environmental damage and posed risks to nearby communities, especially in hard-to-reach areas. The Fire Department reiterated its call to the public to avoid burning grasslands and waste, as these practices are a major cause of wildfires during the dry season. In case of emergency or fire reports, call 103 for a timely response from emergency teams.
