96 Low-Income Families in Panama Receive New Homes

A total of 96 low-income families residing in the districts of La Chorrera and Chame, in the province of Panamá Oeste, received their new homes, which replace the wooden and zinc structures they had lived in for years. These homes are part of a social program by the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning (MIVIOT). Of the total 96 houses, 68 are located in the district of La Chorrera and the rest in the district of Chame, confirmed the minister of this portfolio, Jaime Jovane. Silvia Rodríguez, one of the beneficiaries of the housing delivery, stated that the new house will allow her to keep one of her sons with the family, who, due to his health condition, has been admitted to the Children's Hospital. According to the MIVIOT social report, the young man requires full assistance for his basic needs of feeding, hygiene, and mobilization; in addition, he is dependent on mechanical ventilation and uses a urinary catheter. The house built with zinc sheets, wood scraps, and compressed wood in the Barrio Colón area did not have the necessary conditions for the young man to live in it. The office of the First Lady of the Republic will be in charge of conditioning the home to improve the young man's quality of life, favor his coexistence, and prevent his deterioration.
