The family of urban artist Carlienis is going through a difficult time after authorities notified her mother, Dora, of the death of her beloved monkey Karol. With a broken heart and visibly affected, Dora shared a video on her TikTok account in which she expressed her indignation and assured that she holds the Ministry of Environment of Panama responsible for what happened. "What Mi Ambiente did was unjust," she stated. The family had hoped that the authorities would eventually return the animal, which, they explain, was accustomed to living with humans. In November 2025, the Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) seized the specimen following a complaint, based on the fact that it is a protected species whose domestic possession is illegal in Panama. "I have all the papers, Carlienis has all the papers that prove Karol was perfectly healthy… you don't know about animals, I knew my monkey," she expressed with tears in a video posted on social media. According to her story, for four months they tried to get information about the animal's condition, but she assures that they never received clear responses from the authorities. "My monkey was in perfect condition," she repeated. Now, Dora faces another difficult moment: telling her mother—who was also very fond of the monkey—that Karol has died. "You shouldn't have taken my monkey. You shouldn't have taken my monkey," she also affirmed. She also stated that during that time they were not allowed to visit Karol.
