Copa Airlines presents 'Sube la Marea Remix', a new version of the song released in 2019 that became a symbol of Panamanian identity and pride, which now returns to channel the country's cultural richness into a single message of encouragement for the National Team on its way to the World Cup.
The new version, composed and produced by Los Gaitanes, brings together 29 Panamanian artists, including internationally recognized figures such as Rubén Blades, Sech, Erika Ender, Omar Alfanno, and Boza, as well as Ricardo and Alberto Gaitán, Nando Boom, Idania Dowman, Osvaldo Ayala, Ingrid De Ycaza, Alejandro Torres, Jhonathan Chávez, and Kafu Banton.
From a creative perspective, the piece was built as a deep celebration of Panamanian identity: its music, its territory, its people, and the collective emotion that football awakens. Each artist was filmed in settings that represent the country's cultural and geographical wealth, integrating music, landscape, and identity into a coherent narrative.
'When Panama qualified for the World Cup, it didn't just celebrate football: it celebrated its identity as a country. The presence of these artists reflects the diversity of genres and styles that make up Panamanian musical identity, projecting the country's cultural richness and maintaining the essence that united Panama in 2018,' says Jorge Heilbron, Strategy Creative Advisor at Star5. 'This project celebrates the best of Panama and accompanies the National Team's journey with emotion and creativity.'
As a creative agency and audiovisual production company, Star5 was responsible for conceptualizing and developing the piece's narrative, as well as leading the production process to transform Copa Airlines' vision into content with cultural impact. Star5 developed a narrative that traverses different landscapes and cultural expressions of the country, reflecting how each region lives, accompanies, and elevates the National Team's path.
The project also highlights the Panamanian talent behind the cameras. The production, which took 11 days of filming at 30 national locations including the Panama Canal, Rommel Fernández Stadium, Casco Antiguo, Gamboa, Portobelo, and Bocas del Toro, involved over 100 professionals, mostly Panamanians, consolidating the country's capacity to execute large-scale audiovisual projects.
