After more than eight hours of fighting a fire on 11 ½ Street in Río Abajo, firefighters found the body of a man, approximately 52 years old and of Nicaraguan nationality, around 4:00 a.m. The worker died after being trapped while trying to escape the structure during the fire that broke out yesterday afternoon, Wednesday. The body was found in the exit area, which suggests he was trying to flee when he was trapped by the flames. Once the fire was controlled, the Fire Investigation Department (DINASEPI) will begin investigations to determine the causes, while the units remain at the site until the emergency is declared over. Colleagues had reported his disappearance since the afternoon of the previous day. Commander Ricardo Marciscano explained that after controlling the fire, the units remain in tasks of demolition, cooling, and smoke management to prevent any re-ignition within the structure. He indicated that the Public Prosecutor's Office has already been notified to carry out the procedures at the scene and the removal of the body. During the emergency, firefighters faced problems due to the lack of water at the start and the load of flammable materials, such as tires and auto parts, which complicated the extinguishing work. The fire kept emergency teams on alert all night and was finally contained in the early morning, showing a decrease in its intensity. About 50 units, including permanent and volunteer firefighters, worked tirelessly, supported by tankers, fire vehicles, ambulances, and a mobile command unit, from which the entire operation was coordinated.
