Over 77,000 vehicles travel to Panama's provinces for Easter

During the Semana Santa 2026 Easter break, over 77,127 vehicles traveled to various provinces. Police reported 1,493 violations, including 441 for speeding. The total number of vehicles is expected to exceed 100,000.


Over 77,000 vehicles travel to Panama's provinces for Easter

Over 77,127 vehicles have traveled to various provinces of the country during the Easter break for Semana Santa 2026, reported the National Directorate of Traffic Operations (DNOT) of the National Police.

The vehicle count was recorded from noon on Thursday, April 2, until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, indicating that during last night and part of today, more drivers are expected to travel to the country's interior.

According to DNOT, 1,493 traffic violations have been issued, of which 441 are for speeding and 24 for proven drunkenness; in addition, 124 vehicles have been removed with a tow truck.

The vehicle count during this #SemanaSanta2026, from 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3.

Both DNOT and the Transit and Land Transportation Authority (ATTT) remain along the Inter-American Highway for traffic regulation and driver assistance, actions that are part of the Semana Santa security operation.

Meanwhile, ATTT will maintain monitoring of the vehicle flow and mobility at key points on the road network, such as Sajalices, where the flow towards the western sector and beach areas is supervised. Likewise, in the Santa María sector, the vehicle influx to the Azuero region is tracked; in Divisa, towards the provinces of Veraguas and Chiriquí; and in Las Garzas, towards the eastern sector of the country.

Regarding projections, an increase in the flow of vehicles is expected compared to the previous year, when 89,000 cars were mobilized; while for this year, the figure is expected to exceed 100,000.

Regarding the return to the capital city, the Directorate of Traffic Operations indicated that the reversal of lanes is planned for Sunday, from Las Uvas de San Carlos to Sajalices de Capira, and from Campana to El Nazareno de La Chorrera, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
