Classes Suspended in Northern Veraguas and Ngäbe-Buglé Due to Weather

The Ministry of Education (Meduca) confirmed that classes in the northern part of Veraguas province and in the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca have been suspended for Monday, April 13. This measure is a response to an alert issued by the National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc) due to the forecast of heavy rains and thunderstorms in that region of the country. According to Meduca, the suspension applies to the corregimiento of Calovébora on the north coast of Veraguas and to the Ñokribo region in the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca. Authorities stated that the rains could cause rivers and streams to rise, cause localized flooding, landslides, and wind gusts, posing a risk to the safety and mobility of the educational community. Meduca indicated that the corresponding regional directorates will remain under constant monitoring to promptly communicate the resumption of school activities.
