The Social Security Box (CSS) of Veraguas has issued an alert about the increasing number of dengue cases in the province, calling on the population to take preventive measures to avoid it becoming an epidemic. Dr. Nuñez has highlighted that health authorities continue with constant surveillance to identify new cases and monitor the situation.
Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, whose bites can cause symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, general malaise, and in more severe cases, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. This disease affects the immune system and can cause severe complications by altering platelet and leukocyte levels in the blood if not detected and treated in time.
It is essential for the population to be alert to the warning signs of dengue, such as persistent vomiting, diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, or bleeding. Heydi Nuñez, epidemiology coordinator of the CSS in Veraguas, reported that this year 22 cases have been confirmed at the Dr. Ezequiel Abadía Hospital and 21 at the Dr. Horacio Díaz Gómez Polyclinic, highlighting the urgency of strengthening preventive actions.
Although an epidemic has not been declared, Dr. Nuñez emphasized that the situation is delicate due to the increase in cases, urging the cooperation of the population in implementing preventive measures and eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Prevention is always the best strategy to combat vector-borne diseases such as dengue.
