During the past month, the Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex carried out a total of 1,160 surgeries, as part of the measures implemented by the Social Security Fund (CSS) to ensure timely and quality care for the population. Of these surgeries, 393 were emergencies and 327 were elective with hospitalization.
According to a statistical report from the Health Planning Unit and Technical Secretariat of the hospital, these surgeries were divided into three categories: elective, outpatient, and emergency. Among the procedures performed by the Surgical Service are general, plastic, and maxillofacial reconstructive surgeries, otorhinolaryngological, orthopedic, traumatological, ophthalmological, neurosurgical, and urological surgeries.
The majority of the surgeries performed were outpatient procedures, totaling 440 interventions. Since October of last year, the CSS has been implementing a improvement plan in the Hospital Complex, which includes the renovation of infrastructures, the acquisition of health technology, the expansion of medical specialties, the streamlining of surgeries, the supply of medications and supplies, as well as the decongestion of the Emergency Room.
The main objective of this plan is to improve the quality of medical care offered to the population, providing more comfortable facilities for both patients and medical and administrative staff of the CSS. It is worth mentioning that outpatient surgeries do not require patient hospitalization, allowing them to return home on the same day with the necessary medication.
