According to the Epidemiology Department, between November 2 and 8, a total of 14,349 cases of dengue have been accumulated nationwide. Of these: 12,733 are cases without warning signs, 1,517 with warning signs, and 99 severe dengue cases. The hardest-hit regions are: Panama: 4,422 cases, San Miguelito: 2,527 cases, West Panama: 1,529 cases, North Panama: 1,347 cases, Chiriquí: 848 cases, Bocas del Toro: 848 cases… and so on, with other provinces showing concerning figures. Dengue has also led to the hospitalization of 1,393 people, and so far this year, 24 deaths have been recorded in several regions of the country, including Chiriquí, Bocas del Toro, Metropolitan, Darién, Coclé, San Miguelito, Los Santos, Herrera, West Panama, Ngäbe Buglé Comarca, and Colón. At the district level, the strongest focus of the outbreak is in: Tocumen: 999 cases, December 24: 868 cases, Belisario Frías: 595 cases, Belisario Porras: 543 cases, Ernesto Córdoba Campos: 364 cases. The majority of those affected are between the ages of 10 and 49, meaning the most active segment of the population at home, work, and on the street. The Ministry of Health insists on eliminating mosquito breeding sites inside and outside homes and recognizing the symptoms: fever, headache, general malaise, muscle pain, and eye pain. If you feel unwell, do not self-medicate: go directly to a health center. The message is simple and direct: if the mosquito is not born, dengue does not strike.
