The Panamanian Food Agency (APA) has announced the launch of 'Apa Clic', a tool that will allow consumers to access all the information about products displayed on supermarket shelves.
This tool ensures that Panamanians can consume products that comply with the proper regulations and have a health registration. 'We know their origin, ingredients, and product description,' said APA Director Nicolás Batista in Telemetro Reporta.
In this regard, Batista assures that with this tool, the consumer will have 'a guarantee that it is a product that complies with the regulations of the competent authorities, such as the Ministry of Health.'
Furthermore, Batista indicated that 'Apa Clic' 'works for imported products for human and animal consumption.'
'When people approach the supermarket shelves, by scanning the barcode, they will get information on who the processor or factory of origin of the product is,' he said.
According to Batista, this tool is considered 'a much more important development for nutritional issues because the population will have a tool to know, verify, and guarantee the safety of the product they consume.'
Batista recalled that the health registration is important information, as it identifies whether a product 'is within the regulations for entry into the country.'
Indeed, with the tool, consumers will be able to file a report in the comments section, which, according to Batista, will allow them 'to know what is happening and share the information with the competent authority so that the review of the consumer complaints can be carried out.'
Regarding products sold in Panama but with information in other languages, Batista assured that with the aforementioned tool, the ingredients will be found, 'since through the platform you ensure that they appear.'
Batista pointed out that in the event that information does not appear, it should be interpreted as 'an attention alarm.'
