Panamanian Firefighters Call for Increased Home Safety for Christmas

The Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de la República de Panamá (BCBRP) has issued a preventive alert to the public to reinforce home safety during Christmas Eve and Christmas celebrations. The warning aims to prevent fires and domestic accidents that usually increase during these dates, when the use of kitchens, Christmas lights, gas, and electricity intensifies. Subtenant Aldo Alberola, deputy director of the National Directorate of Fire Safety, Prevention, and Investigation, recalled that prevention is key to protecting the lives and well-being of Panamanian families. One of the main calls is not to leave the kitchen unattended. In the case of pets, the call is not to leave them completely alone. Stoves, ovens, and pots left on without supervision can become an emergency in a matter of minutes. It is also recommended to check gas connections and ensure that the valves are well closed, especially before leaving home. If you are traveling within the country, the BCBRP advises disconnecting unnecessary electrical appliances, avoiding overloading outlets, and securing doors and windows. If Christmas lights are used on Christmas Eve, they must be turned off after the celebration is over or when leaving home. The BCBRP reiterated that prevention is everyone's responsibility and remains the best way to avoid tragedies. In case of any emergency, the institution reminds you to immediately dial 103. Motor, tires, brakes, and lights must be in good condition to reduce risks during the trip. Regarding Christmas decorations, the recommendation is clear: do not leave the tree lights on for long periods.
