Food Donation to Panamanian Oncology Institute

Mercap Panama and producers donated over 10 thousand pounds of agricultural food products to the National Oncological Institute (ION) as part of their social responsibility and to help feed the hundreds of patients who come to this hospital daily. José Pablo Ramos, general manager of Mercap, said that producers from Tierras Altas, tenants, and street vendors came together to make this important donation, which includes legumes (lentils, beans), fruits, vegetables, and greens. Ramos considered that this donation will be of great help for people who really need it, for which both producers and Mercap have committed to taking the necessary food to that segment of the population. Juan Carlos Alcedo Valverde, director of the ION, indicated that this donation is of great help and also a relief, as it is more difficult to acquire certain agricultural products at this time of year. Pick-ups, trucks, and panel-type buses arrived this morning at the ION warehouses with this important donation. Ramos also took the opportunity to announce that in 2026, Mercap and producers have committed to making this type of donation monthly to the ION.
