On Monday evening, Joel Quintero, 19, died after disappearing at Sherman Beach, located on the coast of Colón province. The family was enjoying a day at the beach when the incident occurred. According to preliminary information, the young man swam towards an abandoned boat and subsequently dove into the water. Several minutes passed without him returning to the surface, which immediately alerted his relatives who were on the shore. Agents from the National Aeronaval Service (Senan) arrived at the scene and began search operations aboard a patrol boat. After approximately 30 minutes of searching, agents managed to locate the young man's body, which was recovered from the sea and taken to the shore for the corresponding procedures. Authorities also indicated that the beach will remain closed until further notice. According to data from the National System of Civil Protection (Sinaproc), in 2025 there were more than 60 victims due to immersion, and this year there have been three, which reinforces the importance of prevention.
