The Executive Directorate of Agricultural Quarantine of the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MIDA) reports cases of fraud related to the supposed transport and sale of animals. According to MIDA, scammers ask for money, under the pretext that the pets "are being held for delivery at our facilities at Tocumen International Airport". Therefore, the entity states that the Executive Directorate of Agricultural Quarantine is not responsible for the transport or logistics of transportation, nor for the commercialization of live animals. The quarantine for minor animals is domestic and is carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Health (MINSA)", states the institution. They emphasize that the Agricultural Quarantine procedure is carried out at the point of entry in the presence of the owner or consignee on the air waybill, and its function is limited exclusively to verifying that the required health requirements are met, collecting fees for the services provided (D.E.N. № 18 of May 21, 2019), without intervening in sales or transportation processes. "The Executive Directorate of Agricultural Quarantine urges the public not to make payments to third parties for concepts related to supposed animal seizures," reads the MIDA communiqué.
