A 14-year-old student was injured Wednesday afternoon at the entrance to the República de Sudáfrica Educational Center in the Puerto Escondido community of the Colón province. Preliminary information indicates that he had gone to drop off his sister at the center when gunmen opened fire and wounded him on the steps of the campus. Hermógenes Argüelles, head of the Third Police Zone of Colón, reported that the injured student was heading to the Professional and Technical Institute of Colón (IPTC) when he was attacked in Puerto Escondido. An armed subject shot him, and the minor managed to run to the vicinity of the República de Sudáfrica Educational Center, where he was assisted by inspectors and urgently taken to the hospital. Authorities confirmed that the National Police and the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) are advancing in the investigation and already have key information to find the responsible party. Following the commissioner's statements, the arrest of a suspect linked to the attack was reported, although the investigation into this violence case in Colón remains open.
