With a firm step and a clear message, the new head of the twelfth police zone of San Miguelito, Subcommissioner Javier Batista, arrived, assuring that his greatest challenge will be to curb the wave of homicides hitting the district, many of which are linked to gangs and criminal groups operating in different sectors. The official highlighted that they already have more resources and a larger force assigned by the director of the National Police, Jaime Fernández, to confront crime head-on. During a meeting with the San Miguelito Municipal Council, Batista explained that his strategy includes more foot patrols, constant patrols, checkpoints, roadblocks, and a reinforced presence in the most dangerous communities. Additionally, he announced joint work with community leaders and organized surveillance groups. "Most residents are good people, but anyone who insists on breaking the law must be clear that the National Police will make itself respected and will enforce the country's current laws," he warned. In turn, Juan Barsallo, president of the San Miguelito Municipal Council, stated that the community boards will back the plan and requested greater surveillance in schools, health centers, and sports areas, betting that the community will see the National Police as an ally and not as an enemy. He emphasized that all community boards in the district are willing to work hand in hand and support Commissioner Batista and the National Police, especially in crime prevention, as the representatives work very closely with the community and the most vulnerable groups. Barsallo highlighted that they understand that the National Police's strategy is changeable and depends on many variables, as there are districts and neighborhoods in San Miguelito that are more dangerous than others, so it is necessary to give Commissioner Batista the opportunity to implement his work plan. "We also ask that there be a greater police presence in the area of schools, health centers, sports areas, and support for the 'Vigilant Neighbors,' but, above all, that there be expeditious communication with local authorities and that the community perceives the National Police as a friend, not as a repressive entity," Barsallo stressed.
