Two teenagers charged with rape and theft in Panama

Two teenagers, both 15 years old, faced a guarantees judge, who charged them with the crimes of aggravated rape and theft. As a precautionary measure, they were ordered to be provisionally detained for their alleged involvement in these events, perpetrated on April 11, 2025, in the Omar Torrijos district of San Miguelito, to the detriment of two minor sisters. During the multiple requests hearing, the Superior Prosecutor's Office for Minors of San Miguelito managed to get the juvenile judge to declare the apprehension of the two suspects legal and to consider the formulation of the accusation as presented. Based on the danger posed by the defendants to the victims and the serious nature of the crime, the most severe precautionary measure was imposed. According to the investigation file, the two defendants, accompanied by two other teenagers, entered a residence where the sisters were alone, with the intention of committing a robbery. In their cases, ambulatory precautionary measures were applied. The juvenile penal judge of the Second Judicial Circuit of Panama, Kenia MarĂn, set a three-month deadline for the Public Ministry to complete the investigation. However, upon finding them unprotected, they proceeded to sexually assault them and, before fleeing, they stole $400 in cash from the property. For the same fact, two other teenagers had already been charged, who were 13 and 14 years old at the time of the event.
