Panama Issues Water Consumption Alert in Two Regions

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) warned the population of the Llano de Piedra district in Macaracas and the Las Tablas district in the province of Los Santos that the water currently coming from the taps is not suitable for human consumption due to alterations in its quality detected in recent analyses. According to the entity, the latest measurements taken by the National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan) and verified by Minsa showed changes in the water's parameters, including the presence of microorganisms above permitted levels. In this situation, health authorities recommended boiling the water for three to five minutes before consumption as a preventive measure to reduce health risks. This type of alert is not isolated in the country. Over the past year, the Azuero region has faced problems with drinking water quality due to the contamination of the La Villa and Estibaná rivers, a situation that compromises water sources and, consequently, the purification processes. Both Minsa and Idaan informed that they will maintain monitoring of the situation with the aim of restoring the supply's quality. Additionally, they called on the population to stay informed through official channels and to follow health recommendations while water parameters are normalized in the affected areas.
