Minsa and CSS Award 396 Medical Internship Positions, Clearing 2025 Waiting List

Panama's Ministry of Health and Social Security Fund have awarded 396 medical internship positions in the first public act of the year, placing all applicants from the waiting list. This process benefited 203 doctors who had previously failed to secure a spot, allowing them to complete the mandatory two-year internship. The next act is scheduled for October 2026.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Social Security Fund (CSS) have awarded a total of 396 medical internship positions in the first public act of the year, successfully placing all applicants who were on the waiting list. The head of Teaching, Training, and Human Development at the Ministry of Health, Mayra Abood, explained that during the process, 135 positions were allocated to the Social Security Fund and 261 to the Ministry of Health. Abood highlighted that this process benefited the 203 doctors who had not been able to secure a position in the last public act. 'We have managed to clear the entire waiting list, allowing them to meet the requirement of a two-year consecutive medical internship: the first year in hospitals and the second in health facilities in the interior of the country,' she stated. The official emphasized that the public act is conducted in a public, transparent, and organized manner, ensuring the fulfillment of the necessary academic requirement for doctors to obtain their professional qualification. She also announced that the next public act will take place on October 2, 2026. The awarded positions are distributed in the Santo Tomás, Ciudad de la Salud, José Domingo de Obaldía, Arnulfo Arias Madrid Complex Hospital, Rafael Hernández Regional, Manuel Amador Guerrero, Irma de Lourdes Tzanetatos, and Luis 'Chicho' Fabrega hospitals. Minsa reaffirms its commitment to the training of new doctors, thereby strengthening health care in all facilities nationwide.
