The Colon Community Demands Peace and Security

In Colón, various activities are being carried out to combat violence and promote peace and social coexistence. Medical tours, support for tourism, and the participation of inmates in community events are highlighted. Concern over the high crime rate persists, but the community comes together to seek solutions.

The Colon Community Demands Peace and Security

The province of Colón has carried out a series of activities to strengthen social ties and promote the integration of diverse communities, including social groups, businesses, educators, sports clubs, and organizations from both the right and left. These actions have generated a positive impact in the province, allowing its inhabitants to feel identified and to actively participate in colonense society.

One of the most notable initiatives in Colón has been the program that has generated more than seven million dollars for the province through the arrival of cruise ships loaded with tourists every Thursday. Additionally, medical tours and religious activities, such as those dedicated to the Black Christ of Portobelo, have taken place, which included the participation of inmates about to be released from prison.

The motto "Colón needs you" has been a motivating force in various areas, including sports, while promoting constant communication with the business sector, transporters, and university students. It is essential for all political and social sectors to come together with the aim of developing comprehensive strategies that endure over time and contribute to the resurgence of the province.

However, Colón currently faces a significant challenge due to the increase in crime over the last decade, with a worrying number of deaths impacting the population. Cases of violence have been recorded, especially in Colón's Bunker, where young people have tragically lost their lives.

It is crucial to train specialized professionals and promote social justice as an alternative to repressive measures to address the rising violence in the province. It is necessary for the colonense community, institutions, the private sector, and social actors to unite to work together and achieve a peaceful coexistence environment in Colón.

Despite the current challenges, it is important to highlight that in the past, strategies have been implemented that have yielded positive and peaceful results in the province. However, the lack of continuity in these initiatives has created the need to develop plans and projects tailored to current circumstances to promote peace and coexistence in Colón.
