
Russia confirmed its commitment to the neutrality of the Panama Canal and called for the preservation of this international waterway as safe and open. Alexander Sheytinin, director of the Latin America department at the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated: "We expect that in the course of planned discussions between the leadership of Panama and U.S. President Donald Trump, the management of the Panama Canal will be respected in accordance with existing international legal frameworks relating to this main waterway."
Russia warned the new U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday about the necessity not to seize the Panama Canal either militarily or economically.
