The President of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, is expected to make an official request for Panama to be removed from the European Union's gray list of tax havens. This decision comes as part of a series of efforts by the Panamanian government to improve its international reputation regarding fiscal transparency and combating money laundering.
In this regard, Panama's Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, has informed that President Cortizo will meet in Italy with Italian President Sergio Mattarella and with Pope Francis, with the aim of addressing various issues of bilateral interest. In particular, it is expected that during these meetings the topic of Panama's possible exclusion from the European Union's gray list will be discussed.
In recent statements, Martínez emphasized the importance of this official visit to Italy as a key step in the process of strengthening Panama's relations with other countries and international organizations. He also highlighted the Panamanian government's commitment to continue working towards financial transparency and compliance with international standards in this area.
"President Cortizo's visit to Italy is a significant step in our foreign policy and in our quest to demonstrate to the world the progress we have made in transparency and the fight against money laundering," said Minister Martínez. These meetings in Italy are expected to help reinforce Panama's image internationally and lay the groundwork for possible future agreements and cooperations.
